Wesleyan/palace of yogyakarta faculty exchange

Sponosed by AICEF, the exchange, begun in 2022, sends a dancer from the Palace of Yogyakarta to teach at Wesleyan University. Reknowned for its World Music Program, Wesleyan sends a faculty member of interest to Yogyakarta. In Indonesia, the program is overseen by Kanjeng Notonegoro on behalf of His Highness Hamenkubuwono X. In the US, the exchange is managed by the division of humanties of Wesleyan University (departments of music and dance).

Veronica Retnaningsih, a senior court dancer from the Palace of Yogyakarta, joined Wesleyan's dance faculty from September 2022 to May 2023.

Five Marchiano, joined the Wesleyan dance faculty from September 2023 to May 2024. 
Aditya Cander (a violinist and conductor based at Yale University)  traveled to Indonesia on behalf of Wesleyan University for a residency. He leads the Royal Palace Orchestra (culminating in a performance as part of a gala event) and gives workshops at high schools as well as the National Conservatory (ISI).

Dewati Rahmayani
joined the Wesleyan dance faculty from August 2024 to May 2025. She is a Vising Assistant Professor of Dance at Wesleyan University. She is the delegate from the Royal Palace of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Dewa teaches Javanese dance, specifically, Yogyakarta Classical Dance. She started learning Yogyakarta Classical Dance in 2009 by joining one of the dance groups/communities in Yogyakarta. From there, her interest in Javanese dance grew. In 2011, she had the opportunity to learn Javanese dance at the Royal Palace of Yogyakarta and was appointed as Abdi Dalem of the Royal Palace of Yogyakarta in 2018. Abdi dalem is the devoted caretaker of the Royal Palace in Java.
