BASABALI PERFORMANCE WIKI

Picture
The grant from the American Indonesian Cultural and Educational Foundation enabled BASAbali to create a new virtual space for performance on its community-developed cultural wiki (BASAbaliWiki.org).  This evolving resource encourages the global community interested in Balinese expressive arts to find and upload information about the dynamic world of Balinese performance culture. Dewa Ayu Eka Putri, Secretary, Dance Teacher, and Musician at Çudamani, is the manager of this section as part of Nyoman Clara Listya Dewi’s Community Spaces team.

As more content is added to the performance space, we see more improvements, more opportunities for linking additional information, and more ways to make the materials more useful to more people and to engage the public even more in adding their own content.  For example, we will soon add links to related books and scholarly articles.

To date, the performance shelf is divided into sub-subsections for gamelan, modern music, dance, classic art forms, and children’s song. These categories encompass an array of traditional and contemporary Balinese arts.  Included are videos, images, and literature with description, when available, in English, Balinese, and Indonesian (please note that the sections for Makassar will be spun off into a separate wiki).
