The American-Indonesian
Cultural & Educational Foundation, Inc.

Founded in 1971, the American-Indonesian Cultural & Educational Foundation, Inc. (AICEF) is a New York City based 501c3 not-for-profit corporation devoted to fostering closer cultural and educational ties between the people of the United States and the Republic of Indonesia.

We are committed to
fostering knowledge

When Indonesia became an independent nation in 1949 it had less than 200 people who had earned a PhD degree.  AICEF was established to fund Indonesians citizens studying in the US at the PhD level who would return to participate in building the nation and conduct critical research needed to inform business and government.

We are committed to
bridging the cultural gap

As part of our mission to bridge the cultural gap between The United States and Indonesia, we also support performances, exhibitions, films, and symposiums that foster an understanding of Indonesia in the US.

Our Students

For over 40 years of service AICEF has provided financial assistance to hundreds of Indonesian students pursuing advanced degrees in the United States.
Students have received grants for studies in fields such as:

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Agriculture
  • Education
  • Urban Planning
  • Geography/Community Development
  • Political Science
  • Journalism
  • Public Policy
  • Mathematics
  • Forestry
  • Visual and Performing Arts

AICEF grantees return to Indonesia and educate others.  Many have become leading researchers and senior government officials working to increase productivity, reduce waste, responsibly develop the environment and engage in public policy development.
